Before + After: Exterior Siding!

I can't tell you how excited I am to share this!!!!! After SO much blood, sweat and tears getting the inside of our house looking gorgeous over the past 2+ years since we moved to the coast, the outside is now matching what I'd dreamed of...

THE FRONT - BEFORE...

From the original Google street photo we saw before buying, to the real estate listing drone photo, to after we completely replaced the roof (tear-off) and got rid of the awful skylights, to painting the front door a less horrific shade, it didn't change the fact that the old cedar shingles were garbage, flew off in storms, clearly had been re-painted (a big no-no), and due to the former owner's bad decisions of nailing multiple plants right to the house...it needed love!!!

THE FRONT - AFTER...

Ahhhh...! This and the chimney side have been done for about a month (our contractor let us split the project in three parts - garage, front/side, back/side - to accommodate our budget which was really helpful in this insane year) but I wanted to wait until the front porch light was up! In the old house, they had a tiny light way up that I always thought looked super odd, so when we'd torn the shingles off (doing your own deconstruction makes a world of difference $$), I had our electrician relocate the wiring to just above the new house numbers (for some reason the last owner had them on the garage) which is now SO much more helpful with visibility! Next up in the front? Getting a truckload of mulch to continue de-grassing the front yard and landscape even further in the spring!

THE BACK - BEFORE...

The upstairs deck monstrosity - the upstairs door that would fly open in the middle of the night during storms - the clematis and other climbing plant damage - and the leaky windows (not to mention a garage with FOUR windows!)...oh yeah, our house needed to be rescued!! Below are from the original real estate listing, then with our new roof, then after we deconstructed the deck (repurposing it to build our raised beds!). Even with our sweet girl and new windows, the siding oh-so-needed to be replaced with something better!

THE BACK - AFTER...

Speaks for itself, no? It's LP engineered wood siding that I painted in advance with low-VOC in 'deep royal' before the contractor installed it. The skies were glorious, as if they were celebrating with us! In the spring, we'll be building a deck where that old carpeting is behind the garage. Finances prevented this deck this year, but I must say, having our home beautiful AND safe from the elements? And in my favorite shade of navy blue? Best. Project. Ever!
